How the Big Ding Surf & Travel First Aid Kit Was Born
As the tides of life confronted us with new challenges, we realized it was time to put our “Life is like a coconut” mantra into practice.
The result? A first aid kit — lightweight, compact, and thoughtfully designed. Your small but essential surf trip companion for risky maneuvers and life on the edge. The story behind how this travel first aid kit for surfers came to life was, as is often the case, a sum of experiences and adventures we lived ourselves:

These four ingredients brought the idea to life. We knew one thing: an idea is worthless without execution — so we got to work.
Surf Trips & Travel Medicine

Surfing is more than a passion to us — it’s a way of life. The fascination of endless waves in the most remote parts of the world is indescribable. But adventure also comes with responsibility.
Surf trips often lead to remote regions where medical care is far from guaranteed. That’s why a well-equipped travel medicine kit and proper first aid gear are essential when preparing for surf injuries.
Whether it’s small cuts, bruises, or more serious injuries — having the right equipment can mean the difference between a short interruption and a real disaster. Like many surfers, we used to throw our medicine and bandages together in random bags and pouches.
The Pain of Packing
Gathering and packing first aid essentials was always annoying and inconvenient. Traditional first aid kits were often too bulky, too heavy, and lacked any real surf-specific focus. Honestly? Even the design was rarely something you’d actually want to bring on your adventures.
Eisbach Injury Reality

We also love surfing our local rapid surf spot, Eisbach — where cuts and bruises are basically part of the daily menu. Lacerations, scrapes, and minor accidents happen there all the time.
More than once, we wished we had a compact first aid kit in our backpack — either for ourselves or to help out another surfer quickly.
No Surf First Aid Kit on the Market
So we started searching for the right first aid kit specifically designed for surfers. The result? Disappointment. In Europe, we couldn’t find a single kit that truly met our standards for surf, travel, and real functionality.
What we were missing was a thoughtful, lightweight, surf-specific first aid kit — created by surfers for surfers, built for reef cuts, surf trips, and life on the move.
That’s when it became clear: If the perfect kit didn’t exist, we had to build it ourselves.
From Idea to Reality
The idea for our own Big Ding Surf & Travel First Aid Kit was born.
Our goal: Create a kit that combines all essential first aid components for surf trips and travel adventures — while staying as lightweight, compact, and space-saving as possible.
Regulatory restrictions prevented us from including certain products like iodine disinfectants, scalpels, or syringes — so we designed a system that leaves enough room for your own pharmacy add-ons.
That’s why the included booklet also contains practical recommendations for medications, useful tools, and smart additions for your personal travel medicine setup.
Today, we’re beyond stoked to see this idea becoming reality. Even better: This new product category fits perfectly into our DNA and naturally expands our Surfboard Repair roots.
